Description:

Single bead sight on a flat matte tapering rib. The top of the right barrel near he breech is marked “HENRY ATKIN. LTD.” 27 ST JAMES’S STREET. LONDON S.W.L.” Henry Atkin was a stocker for Purdey in the mid 1800s, and in 1891, he and four other gentlemen bought Boss & Company. The breech end of the barrels is decorated with a feather design. The action, side locks, trigger guard and break lever are decorated with floral scroll engraving. Each lock is also marked “HENRY ATKINS” and features fine English scroll engraving. The action and locks are casehardened and the remaining parts blue. Double triggers, automatic tang mounted safety with gold “SAFE” and mounted with a nicely figured multi-point checkered walnut splinter forearm and round knob pistol grip stock with a checkered contrasting butt plate and gold initial oval. 3 inch chambers, chokes gauge at improved modified/full, ejectors and 14 1/2 inch length of pull. Shotgun measurements are: Bore at 9″ from breech .729 R/L; Wall thickness at 9″ from breech .061 R/L; Drop at comb 1 17/32 inches: Drop at heel 2 1/4 inches; 1/4 inch cast on; 0 toe; Overall weight 7 Lbs. 10.8 Oz.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The barrels retain 70% original blue finish with ares thinned to a smooth gray patina and showing some small scattered areas of minor spotting. The trigger guard/lower tang retain 40% original blue finish with a smooth gray patina on the balance and some minor oxidation on the left edge. The action and side locks retain 80% original vivid case colors with some minor oxidation on the lower edges of the action. The wood is also very good with a few minor dings, scratches and handling marks. The checkering is crisp. The markings and engraving are crisp and clear. Mechanically excellent.
